JOB SHADOW ESSAY On March 15 2015 I took a visit to Living Water Clinic in Porterville to do my job shadow. I job shadowed Liliana Lemus, she is a Nurse Assistant. Everyone there was very greeting when I walked in. I chose to job shadow a nurse assistant because my plans after high school are to get into the medical field. Ever since I was 13 years old I always have had in mind to become a medical assistant. It’s a well payed job and it doesn’t seem stressful. While I was job shadowing Liliana I explored many different things. She gave me the opportunity to call about 5 patients to the back room to check their temperature, weight and their height. When I first got their she showed me all around and showed me what went on in every room they had. She had made breakfast early in the morning at her house and took it to work and invited me some and we ate at the doctor’s launch they had there. The thing I enjoyed doing the most was calling patients early in the morning and reminding them that they had a doctor’s appointment and remind them the date and time although some were rude about it. I also liked when it was lunch time because they had so many good food and one of the co-workers took enchiladas for everybody and they were delicious. One thing I disliked was when we got back on track some lady that was already around her 80’s was really rude. I was going in to the room with Liliana and she asked who I was and we told her that I was job shadowing her and she said I had to get out that she didn’t associate with children; I felt some type of way and embarrassingly got out of the room. Liliana, the medical assistant that I was job shadowing told me that I shouldn’t feel bad or anything because there was a lot of patients that were like that that in the medical field so many patients like that were going to be coming in and out. I learned so many things as well. I got to learn how to take the blood pressure, temperature, check the heartbeat, and their sugar. Once you start doing it you get the hang of it very quickly. I never in my life had experience doing any of that but after about three times that I saw my sister in law do it I automatically knew how to do it myself. After this experience I want to get into the medical field even more. Joining the medical field can come in handy in many ways. If theirs ever an emergency with your family and their no doctors nearby or they are close you might know exactly what to do. I want to join the medical field because it is a great career.
